Before I start blogging photos from my trip to Croatia, I thought I'd take a moment to show you around my home to help you understand why I just posted three books summaries in a row. I'm always reading AND I still have SO MANY calling my name -
ON MY BOOKSHELVES......
ON MY FIREPLACE.......
ON MY KITCHEN ISLAND......
ON MY DINING TABLE.......
AND FOR DECORATION, IN A WOODEN BOWL (Thank you sister Jane for this idea!)
And this doesn't include my Barnes & Noble "Wish List". YIKES!
I hope you noticed all of my BOOKENDS too! Yeah, I kinda have "a thing" for unique bookends..... Don't you love them?!
JOAN
I love the chairs!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Picked them up in a gift shop years ago. There was no hesitation to buy once I set my eyes on them.
DeleteOK, you definitely have a problem. At least I only take out 6-10 at a time from the library and I no longer buy any books from B&N. I used to have cartons full of books; but managed to rid myself of them many, many years ago. I think it may be "hoarding"? YIKES, I was going to ask you for your book list; but I think now I won't. I'd be dead before I read all of yours in addition to the types I usually read.
ReplyDeleteHahaha - yes, a problem indeed. BUT, it sounds like YOU can relate!!
DeleteI am a true B&N devotee....... I want bookstores to stay open for the times I'm in the mood to "browse". What types do you usually read? You can see the ones I like.
I'm somewhere between you, Joan, and anymous2. I had bookshelves, some floor to ceiling, overflowing with books in 5 rooms, though the dining table was off limits. I've been ridding myself of books but get stuck when I "have" to re-read them before I let go. I still have a few boxes from the move that need to go. I only buy e-books now. My to-read list is big and growing bigger but I've made a commitment to spend less time on FB and read more this year.
ReplyDeleteWow, you re-read books before getting rid of them? You're good. I pass mine on to 4 different friends and then I donate to the library or local bookstore. I too have some to read on my Nook (B&N to the end.....) that I forgot to mention here. But I so prefer holding a book. So many books, so little time, eh? xo
DeleteThe ones I'm re-reading are from a book purchasing club in the 80's. So it's been a while since I read them. I couldn't read paper books when I had cataracts and even now the light of my ipad makes reading at night easier. I do prefer a paper book for being able to reference back to things. It's just easier for me. Been doing it longer. ;-)
DeleteThat sounds like a fun club.... YIKES! I've heard a lot of people say how much they appreciate the light on the iPad or Kindle. Ok, I'll have to try it one of these days.
DeleteI'm only 200 pgs in on Amy Tan's 600 pg "Valley of Amazement". Gotta get moving here.... have you read it?
No, it's on my list now. ;-) I'm reading "The Lost German Slave Girl" by John Bailey, to see if I want to offer it for April's book club. I have "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and "Pilgrim's Wilderness: A True Story of Faith and Madness on the Alaska Frontier" to read as alternatives(someone wanted non-fiction). Just finished "Honolulu" by Alan Brennert.
DeleteSo glad to hear there is someone else with rooms of books...my family room and living room are walls of book shelves and I continue to buy to the shame of friends who use libraries...love your bookends..
ReplyDeleteI know, I know...... I can't help myself from buying them. There are so many good ones out there and I have the best of intentions, don't you?
DeleteWe have friends in Italy who don't believe in having pictures on the walls. They have floor to ceiling bookshelves, full in each room! Joan, your post reminds me to try "Boone"! Yes, I think I love the chair, bookends most of all!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to fill the walls with books! I gave away over 100 books last year but you'd never know it. Boone was loaned to me by my neighbor. I MUST get to it, so it can be returned before the next century, right?
DeleteBooks scattered around a home create instant warmth, your home looks really warm and inviting. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteI never thought of that. With a snow storm on the way tonight, I'll just look around think how warm my surroundings are - thanks!! : )
DeleteOh boy, can I relate to this! My mother, my boyfriend, and my sister have all recently commented on how many books I have and subtly/not so subtly suggested I stop buying. I take offense to that! There's plenty of room left - the floor, for example. That's a great place I can start stacking books. I really don't see the problem! :P Good luck with working your way through your piles - slowly but surely, I'm sure you will get there! x
ReplyDeleteJacquie, I hear ya!! And last year I got rid of over 100 books from my shelves. Glad you can relate and that you enjoy reading as much as I do. So many good books, and so little time, right? Make haste! x
DeleteYour home looks lovely! I'm always curious if I go to someones house and I can't see their books. Is there a hidden bookcase somewhere or do they really not read books? Our bookcases are so overflowing that I had to make a decision to read e-books on my Kindle as there was just no room! x
ReplyDeleteKaren, I had never thought of that, but you're so right!
DeleteThe Kindle was a GREAT invention in so many ways..... x
I don't just love your bookends Joan I love everything about your beautiful home. You can never have too many books. I love how yours are displayed. I always love having a sneak peek into people's homes. Just lovely. x
ReplyDeleteDeb, how kind of you to take the time to tell me you love the bookends AND my home. My home and decor suit me - I've been quite fortunate in life to have what I have. x
